Wanna Hang Out?

Over the past years, I can’t help but notice an upsurge in the use of the term “hanging out” here in the Philippines (and perhaps all over the world). I’m not referring to a group of people coming together and exchanging stories/having drinks, but rather to two people, more often than not from the opposite sex, frequently enjoying each other’s company.and maybe more.

There have been several occasions where I’ve seen friends spending considerable amounts of time with someone and, when asked if they were dating, they’d simply reply: “We’re just hanging out.” So what exactly is Hanging Out? Are there rules involved in such a setup?

My curiosity led me to conduct a little survey on the matter but it seems that nobody can give a clear-cut definition as to what the term means-which only makes it more interesting for me. Based on what I’ve gathered though, it seems to me as if more and more people are avoiding the traditional concept of “Ligaw” and the more modern one “Dating” and replacing it with these two mysterious yet powerful words-powerful indeed because Hanging Out is a very safe term and the weapon of choice among most siguristas. It also appears to be that people who say this refuse to be tied down to a single person.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see anything foul with two people hanging out and I admit to using these words on some occasions. I guess what concerns me more than anything else is the possibility of expectations being masked by this expression, especially when intimacy or sexytime is involved. Now I’m not gonna try and break this whole thing down into a science. In fact, I’d like to share a few places within Metro Manila that make Hanging Out a bit more pleasurable:

1) Robot (along Makati Ave.) - great food + awesome ambiance

2) Kyss (across A.Venue) - fusion cuisine + friendly people

3) Ayala Triangle (Makati) - walk + kiss

4) Distillery (Eastwood) - drinks across the board

5) Cav (Fort) - wine + tapas

6) Seven Suites Hotel Observatory (Antipolo) - stargazing

7) Tiendesitas (C5) - for animal and plant lovers

Manila Ocean Park (Manila) - if you love sea creatures

9) Intramuros (Manila) - change the way you see Manila

10) B-Side (Makati) - enjoy music + be creative

Yes, these places are actually conducive to steady conversations and enjoyable moments.

Obviously, Hanging Out is too broad to define but here are a few words I shall leave you with for now: Proceed with caution and have fun!!!

I’m sure you have heard of this crazy trio, forefront wits are Sam YG, Tony Toni and Slick Rick. They’ve got spontaneous humor, lively programming, manly stuff, impeccable jokes, and good choice of playlists in their show. They are a celebrity blogger at Juice.ph.
